The fight against injustice in Than killings is becoming tough. The court of
judicial magistrate first class in Chotila has rejected the application filed
by CID (crime) seeking repealing of attempt to murder charges slapped against
eight dalit community members.
The court observed that the
investigating officer has filed the report seeking removal of these charges
without the knowledge of main complainant police sub-inspector K P Jadeja.
Jadeja and three other cops are facing murder charges for firing on a mob that
killed three dalit youths on September 22 and 23. All four accused are on the
run.
Jadeja had filed a complaint under
various Sections of IPC, including attempt to murder against eight dalits, and
more than 200 people after they clashed with police September 22 in Thangadh.
Three youths -- Pankaj Sumra (16), Mehul Rarthod (17), Prakash Parmar (26) were
killed and one person Chhanabhai Vaniya seriously injured. After the outrage
from across the state about the dalit youth killings, the investigation was
handed over to CID (crime) and four police officials, including K P Jadeja,
were booked for murder charges.
The CID report categorically said that Jadeja had fabricated FIR after killing dalit youth. One cop was not present on the spot at the time of incident and Jadeja mentioned about him that "he fired at mob." The report also says that all injuries to cops are minor and the section 307 should be repealed.
